Hopefully, Steve won’t mind that I share this story. He’s much too humble to ever share it himself. Steve used to work for a well-known Nairobi telecommunications company, but lost his position about a year ago due to down-sizing. Yet Steve never doubted that God was in control of his life. He and his family maintained a positive outlook. Steve enrolled in a Master’s program to improve his marketability in business. Moreover, Steve continued ministry work with REM Schools as an ambassador for our teams, as REM School photographer, and as technical systems support director at the High School, even though he did not have a position. He never wavered in his faith as God continued to grow him and his family through this very challenging time in their lives. All along, God was preparing Steve and his family for this new role at GOYA/REM (though again, the position did not exist until recently). God truly blesses their steadfast reliance, “Oh, the joys of those who trust the LORD, who have no confidence in the proud or in those who worship idols.” Psm 40:4 (NLT)
It is a wonderful testament to Steve and his family that they listen and respond obediently to the Lord’s calling them to GOYA/REM. Steve has long been active in the ministry, and brings his wealth of knowledge in telecommunications, infrastructure, and computer data systems to REM Schools, to build up teacher skills and confidence as they, in turn, introduce emerging technologies into the classrooms.
